Cat se Pad Hiking Trail

Franschhoek

For more stunning views of the Franschhoek valley, Cat’s Pass Trail starts with a steep 2.5 km ascent of the old Cat’s Pass in Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. After the initial steep climb to the top of the pass, the route levels off for a further 8km and takes in interesting historic sights such as Muller’s Bridge, Jan Joubergat Bridge, the Cat’s Toll House and the old out span, the resting place for travellers and their oxen.

The route was initially built in 1819 and offers glorious scenery and a great diversity of fynbos within the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. The trail is clearly marked and well maintained. Permits and maps are available at the Franschhoek Tourism Office, the Protea Hotel or the Huguenot Museum. Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve is part of the UNESCO declared Boland Biosphere Reserve
